The cranes handle the storage of packages containing highly radioactive waste in a strictly shielded storage area. Because of the high radiation levels, local human intervention is not allowed, so all tasks to the cranes are given from a remote-controlled HMI panel in a central control room.
Each crane mechanism is fully redundant so that in case of a failure or malfunction of the movement, the backup system can be activated immediately.
